Well, Loki and I went with our SG-23 outfits — and were rewarded with a Jaffa sighting! But a Bugg Wars theme would have been equally awesome.

Yeah, you’ve got some great fashion sense, Buggs! combining sombreros, Stargate gear, the Princess Leia cinnabun hairdo, and huge, pointy moustaches is a very memorable look.

Wrath, wraith, tomayto, tomahto. Did I get a drawing of the Buggs in full tactical and Tok’ra-allied Jaffa gear, with P90s and staff weapons? Well, that’s all that counts.

I will grant you, I’ve not been to the Art Institute in forever, so it could be new, but I’m pretty sure the scene in Ferris Bueller did not include a painting of a Stargate.

Maybe I should re-watch it.

I want those cake toppers

No, really, those very toppers: Mr Bugg in mid-ninja-kick with nunchucks, trident-sword-thing and top hat, and Mrs Bugg with the staff weapon accessory* to her wedding dress, and special symbol-of-her-god makeup.

Someone get on that.

*I wonder if a staff weapon counts as old, new or borrowed?

walk like

I totally started to go all “Oh, Mrs Bugg. This is not Ra or Hathor or Baal or any of the Stargate SG-1-appearing Egyptian god-kings,” but then I remembered my reading-comprehension tag.

Maybe I should think about doing that.

through the gate

I wonder where they’re going? Hopefully they’ve already sent the MALP to make sure there’s a breathable atmosphere and not, like, a lake of lava over which the destination stargate is suspended. Because that would suck.

I love all those things

Oh, yes. I love the staff weapon and the tactical vest and the cleats and the cowboy-boots-with-spurs and the surveillance van and the ninja and pirate weaponry and the P90. I love that the buggs love what I love!

Sirius: A super-important star in the History of Loki and Suriel. I’m not surprised that that’s what the wise Buggs used to find the Baby Loki.

Also: Mrs Bugg and her staff weapon, let me just tell you what.

I don’t think he was really trying

I mean, I wouldn’t blame him if he just wanted to keep on being a pretty pretty princess … more power to him, I say.

And of course, we’ve got the bonus of Mrs Bugg as a Jaffa First Prime. LOVE the thousand-yard stare.

siege

Once again, Mrs Bugg goes for the historically-inaccurate weaponry. You can have her staff weapon when you pry it from her cold, dead hands … and probably not even then, given the Buggs’ legendary regenerative powers.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg stand outside a city, whose wall encircles their iconic Coliseum. Mr Bugg is dressed in a kinging getup: Crown, sword and shield, while Mrs Bugg is presumably his personal bodyguard. She is wielding an anachronistic Jaffa staff weapon, but no one will be so foolish as to point this out to her.

The text reads: “Buggarch 12, 538: Vitbugges, King of the Ostrobuggoths, ends his siege of Rome.”

staff weapon?

I am pretty sure that’s not what happened in the film, but I have no problem with Mrs Bugg’s interpretation.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are confronted by a group of four bugg thugs. You can tell they’re thugs because one is wearing a leather jacket and smoking. Mrs Bugg, who takes no one’s shit, ever, and isn’t starting now, has drawn from a secret pocket somewhere a huge Jaffa staff weapon, and is pointing the business end at the thugs.

The text reads: “Stand By Me: Scene 36: When the bully biggs showed up Mrs Bugg pulled out the staff weapon.”

oh, buggpoleon

I shouldn’t act disdainful. I love the Jaffa thing, and it is never, ever going to get old.

Transcript:

Mr Bugg is dressed as Buggpoleon Bonapart (Buggapart?) in his Buggpoleon hat, wearing a nice military jacket. His left hand is tucked between buttons, as per tradition. Mrs Bugg, meanwhile, is rocking the thousand-yard stare of a First Prime, heavily armored, with the symbol of her god on her head, her staff weapon at the ready, and ranks of Jaffa warriors behind her.

The text reads: “Buggarch 7, 1799: Buggpoleon captures Jaffa, hoping to gain many warriors … Yeah, did this last year, but it is awesome.”

maybe the new ones aren’t ready yet

Plus, it’s fun to revisit the good ones. Plus plus, it’s important to get all the use you can out of your outfits. I mean, look at Loki and I: spent time and money assembling the bits to cosplay as a Stargate team, and we’ve done it twice.

I mean, to spectacular effect both times, but still.

Not the end of the world to replay your favorites, is all I’m saying.

Mr Bugg is a stormtrooper, in the white plastic armor, while Mrs Bugg has, again, claimed the Jaffa outfit. She’s carrying her staff weapon, has sharpie’d the symbol of her god on her forehead and is staring right through you.

The text reads: “Yeah, even after working on outfits, Mrs Bugg insisted on the usual cosplay.”

Yep, that there is a princess-on-a-unicorn dress a la Despicable Me 2.

Transcript:

Mr Bugg is wearing a sort of dress thing that makes it look like he’s riding a unicorn. He is wearing a sparkly tiara and is waving a star-topped wand. Mrs Bugg, meanwhile, is a Jaffa, with staff weapon in her hand, branded god-symbol on her forehead and thousand-yard stare on her face. Her ensemble is completed by her now-traditional black boots.

The text reads: “And some cosplay Buggs for fun.”

I’m not telling them

They can cosplay if they want to. I wouldn’t dream of stopping them.

The text reads: “The Buggs are looking forward to NAMM. They don’t understand that not all conventions are about cosplay.”

What we’ve got here is proof that Mrs Bugg is a method actor. She sees that the Mona Buggisa has kind of a thousand-yard stare going, so she digs through her mental repertoire of characters and emotions, and realizes that the Jaffa have the thousand-yard stare going on, and uses that for her inspiration. It’s just a little sad that she made Mr Bugg paint the symbol of her god on her forehead, too.

Mr Bugg stands with his back to us, contemplating a large painting on an easel, arms in the accepted “looking at art” pose, with one arm across his chest, upon which hand rests the elbow of the other arm. That hand is either pressed to his chin or lips, we can’t tell. The painting is of a woman, Mrs Bugg, wearing a dress, a bow in her hair. Her arms are folded, and her face projects a thousand-yard stare. We will ignore the symbol upon her forehead.

I love all the Buggs’ cosplay. I do not discriminate!

A small girl-bugg, wearing a tutu, cleats and the golden forehead-brand of a First Prime Jaffa and brandishing a staff weapon and a ninja trident, is standing amid a veritable trove of cosplay accessories: A lightsaber (which nevertheless looks like a spiky … er … adult novelty), nunchucks, a scimitar, a handgun of some description, a soccer ball, a P90, boots with spurs and a couple of headbands, one with elf-ears and the other with what may be a halo, for reasons best left unexplored.

The text reads: “The possible future bugg shows how cute she could be if you approve. Please don’t tell her possible future parents she escaped.”
