that dog loves him some lasers

laaaazors [click to embiggen]

No seriously. He even got his own automated laser for Christmas from friends of ours, which was kind of the most awesome thing ever.

oh, it’s on, all right

hold on [click to embiggen]

Dude, she didn’t even need to grab the reins if she wanted to go fast; she just had to wait for three seconds, until Fenris realized he was close to the spot where he saw a kid/cat/dog that one time, and bolted.

Transcript:

Mr Bugg is sitting on Fenris’ back, holding onto the hair with one hand and waving to get Mrs Bugg’s attention. He is looking a bit worried. Mrs Bugg is still standing, but she has grabbed the leash/reins and is probably screaming at Fenris to go faster, encouragement he does not require.

The text reads: “Mrs Bugg has grabbed the reins on Fenris … now it’s on.”

safety precautions

in motion [click to embiggen]

If Mrs Bugg had to stop taking extreme risks, she would die of boredom.

Transcript:

Mr Bugg is sitting sensibly on Fenris’ back, holding the leash like reins. Mrs Bugg, meanwhile, is standing up, not holding on to anything, her arms in the air like she’s on a roller coaster, which may well be the case if Fenris spots a cat, another dog, a kid, or basically anything he’d really like to make friends with.

The text reads: “Mrs Bugg does not believe in remaining seated while Fenris is in motion.”

missing her

tofubeast [click to embiggen]

I don’t remember what prompted this, but we’re six months on from this drawing and I still badly miss our Freya-boo.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding hands and waving, and they are wearing black armbands to indicate that they are still in mourning.

The text reads: “The Buggs miss Freya, too … but they always remember so many good things about her … other than she wouldn’t let them ride her.”

incentive

incentive [click to embiggen]

OMG. Yes. Fenris loves the laser pointer. It drives him right out of his doggie mind.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg stand on Fenris’ back, holding a laser pointer above their heads. They are aiming it in front of the dog. Not pictured: the restraints they should really be wearing to hold them onto his back as he tears around like a mad thing.

The text reads: “The Buggs thought Fenris would get more exercise if he ran.”

walkies, assistance with

help with walkies [click to embiggen]

Yeah, we’ve not been too good about that lately.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are sitting on the hairy back of quite a large animal. Mrs Bugg is holding a leash or rein, while Mr Bugg sits behind her.

The text reads: “The buggs have decided to help us walk Fenris more often.”

scritches

scritches [click to embiggen]

Wait, are they giving or getting the scritches?

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding up hands made huge by perspective. They are smiling.

The text reads: “The buggs have taught Fenris a new command. Hold still and we will scratch you all over.

Then dog getting scritched.”

can’t go on too many walkies

more walkies [click to embiggen]

I do believe the Buggs have discovered the key to happiness: holding hands, walking the dog.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding hands and smiling. Mrs Bugg is holding the leash of the corndog, who is straining on the leash because if they don’t go faster, they will miss something. There’s no sound, but I’m guessing he’s whining as well.

The text reads: “Sometimes nothing happens in buggdom, so the buggs first take the corndog for a walk.”

houseguest

click to embiggen

Apparently, the Buggs had a houseguest at the same time we did! I love the holidays.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding hands and waving, while the corndogg follows them on what are presumably walkies. In the background, a black-clad bugg with black hair hanging in his face walks more slowly.

The text reads: “And … Buggs with corndogg … and the boibugg.”

rainy walkies

walkies

Yeah, there was, like, no rain this past winter. I’m glad we didn’t wait for rain to do our walkies.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding hands and walking the corndogg, who is pulling at the leash. It is raining lightly, but no one seems to mind.

The text reads: “Taking the corn dog for a walk. Hopefully we can do this soon.”

snowbuggs

snowbuggs

I’m really sorry we couldn’t get to the mountains during the three hours that they had snow this winter. We really want to take the corndog to the snow, and we haven’t managed it yet.

Transcript:

The Buggs are walking the corndog in the snow, holding hands and smiling as the corndog tries to yank Mrs Bugg’s arm out of the socket because WE ARE MISSING IT GODDAMMIT.

Er.

The text reads: “Taking the corndog for a walk in the snow … the buggs want to go.”

ride ’em cowbugg

walkies

What I don’t understand is why the corndog’s head looks like a turtle’s head.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg stand upon the back of the corndog, holding tightly to his leash, as he tries to run.

The text reads: “The buggs decided to take the corndog for a walk so we won’t need to.”

all the best things

best things

Does it get any better than this? I submit to you: It does not.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding hands, walking in the rain. Mrs Bugg is also holding the leash of the corndogg, who is straining to go faster because if they don’t hurry up they will miss something good.

The text reads: “And as a bonus, walking the corndog in the rain.”

give him the loves

corndog

I’m only a little sorry to say that the corndogg does not miss the tofubeast. I mean, I don’t want him to be sad or lonely, just … well, he liked her, but mostly she was a pain in his ass, if I’m honest.

He is enjoying our undivided attention, however.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are waving to get our attention, as they have something to tell us. Next to them, a chubby corndog looks on.

The text reads: “The Corn Dogg wants more attention.”

walkies

walkies

Gods know the corndogg could use the exercise. Just sayin’.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg hold hands, while Mrs Bugg holds the leash of the corndogg, who is straining against the leash in an effort to go faster, because if he doesn’t, all the good things/kids/cats/other dogs will have gotten away. True fact.

The text reads: “Just the Buggs taking the corndogg for a walk.”

ninjas are no match for the corn dogg

protector part two

Seriously, the Corn Dogg has saved us from every menace there is, including ninjas, pirates, children, the UPS guy, people on bikes, other dogs, leaves and the wind. We are ever so grateful and not at all annoyed that he barks and barks and barks and barks at four in the morning. Not at all.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are dressed as ninjas, but have dropped their nunchucks, throwing stars, swords trident-shaped pokey things, as they are being chased by a large corndogg, his mouth open in a ferocious bark.

The text reads: “The Corn Dogg caught some ninja buggs sneaking in and chased them off.”

fear

fear

I knew we’d get to this point in the drawings, but I have been dreading it.

The night before our Freya’s last, before we knew what her fate would be, Loki carried her upstairs to sleep on our bed, so she wouldn’t be alone — the dogs are not normally allowed upstairs, but he didn’t want to be apart from her. She slept between us without moving, and startled the hell out of me when I woke up to find her on the bed. It’s been two months, and her loss is still with me ever blessed day. Hell, I’m tearing up just writing this.

Transcript:

Mr Bugg is carrying a small tofubeast in his arms, while Mrs Bugg sleeps in a big bed.

The text reads: “Bugly 11, 2013: Mr Bugg is so afraid to lose the fierce tofubeast, he brings her to bed, just in case.”

the fiercest tofubeast

the fiercest

This was our Freya’s birthday. Heartbreakingly, we lost her just six days weeks later.

She was the fiercest dog ever.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg hold their hunting bows and wave at a tiny, tiny tofubeast, her mouth open in a joyous bark, prancing about on her hind legs.

The text reads: “Junebugg 6, 2009: The fiercest tofubeast ever is born. All bugs cower in her presence … mostly because she is so cute and they don’t want to tell her the truth.”

I am totally getting this

stickers

Similar to those stick-figure family stickers, but way, way cooler.

Transcript:

Mr and Mrs Bugg are holding hands, smiling and waving, while in the background frolic an assortment of creatures: A fierce tofubeast with a bow, a different tofubeast (now suspected to be a corndog), and six cats, three of whom have bows to indicate their girl-cat-ness.

The text reads: “The Buggs think this should go on the back of your car.”
