naked as the day they were hatched

I mean, I’m assuming they were hatched. That’s what insects do, right?

(I’ve never investigated too closely, because bugs (single g) give me the screaming meemies. Ask anyone who was in my kitchen the time a cockroach was hanging off a bag of potatoes I’d just picked up. That scream was one that is still talked about today.)

Transcript:

Mr Bugg is smiling and holding up both hands in a sort of wave, while Mrs Bugg is carrying a handful of their stripes. They are stripeless — totally naked.

The text reads: “Sometimes when the buggs are alone, they strip down and relax.”
